Builta students thoroughly enjoyed the Prismatic Laser Assembly, generously sponsored by the Builta PTA. It was an experience that brought smiles, excitement, and lots of engagement for our students.   Students learned strategies about dealing with bullying and spreading kindness. Thank you to the PTA for making this special opportunity possible.

This year’s PTA Kindness Challenge is in full swing.  Last week the PTA shared the challenge with students in an assembly.  This week students are racing to the goal of $15,000 by securing pledges and completing acts of kindness.  The kindness tree in the LMC is growing and the trophies are moving around to classrooms as classes reach their goals.

Congratulations to a 3rd grade Builta Badger for being the grand prize winner for Bolingbrook Fire Department’s Open House coloring contest.  He got to arrive at school in a fire engine with flashing lights and sirens.  Several classes and staff were out front to greet him.

Over one hundred Builta students in grades K-5 are participating in Run Club this fall. The families of participating students made a donation to support the runners of Team Builta and Team IPEF.  Half of all donations collected come back to Builta and the other half goes to the Indian Prairie Educational Foundation to support programs such as Robotics Club, Fine Arts Festival, and Innovation Grants.  Students are having fun doing relay races and running outside around the field with their fellow Badgers.

Builta students at all grade levels are starting to learn how to code with SAM labs.  SAM labs is a district resource that teaches students coding through systems that require inputs and outputs. Students use Chromebooks to code and then connect to a variety of different outputs like LED lights, motors, sliders, and tilts.  This week first grade students coded a wheel to spin and kindergarten students coded a LED light to change colors by pushing on the space bar on their Chromebook.  Throughout the year students in K-5 will build upon what they are learning now to code more sophisticated systems.
