The Library Media Center is available on a daily basis for student checkout of books. Books should be returned each day before 9:15. Books have a two week checkout period. Students in grades 1-5 do not have a limit on the number of books they check out, but they are asked to respect other by only checking out the books that they can read in two weeks. Each Wednesday all students and staff participate in Badger Book Time. This means everyone in the building reads for twenty minutes. Students are allowed to choose their own reading material.

Badger Keys to Respect

As a key to respecting property please continue to stress proper book care with your children. Please do not eat or drink while reading the Builta LMC books. If you do have an accident with a book please do not try to fix the book at home. We have special materials, and Mrs. Ziegler is trained to repair the books properly. This year many books have been returned wet so please take care not to send books with water bottles in the bag and use a plastic bag to protect the books.

Builta Birthday Book Club

The response to our Builta Birthday Book Club has been wonderful this year. Many students have signed up, and we are still accepting students for the club. Donating a lasting gift for all the students at Builta Elementary is a great way to celebrate your child’s birthday.  Books are chosen on the first Wednesday of each month with the summer birthdays celebrated on the half birthday. September birthdays were celebrated on the second Wednesday. Thank you to everyone who has donated a book to the Builta LMC.

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is a program in which students may participate by reading books and taking tests on the books thereby earning points for rewards such as book marks, books, and time with specials teachers. For students who read and attain fifty points we have the AR Bronze Club, students who attain one hundred points are in the Silver Club, students who attain 250 points are in the Gold Club and students who reach 500 points achieve Platinum Club.  Congratulations to all Accelerated Reader achievers. Look for their pictures in the LMC Accelerated Reader Hall of Fame.

Finally, just a reminder that reading with and to your child is not only a valuable experience for your child, but also rewarding for you. No elementary student is too old to be read to!
