About Our School
WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE FOR WAYNE
BUILTA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!
On behalf of the staff at Builta I’d like to invite you to
learn more about our school.
Wayne Builta Elementary School opened in August of 1999 and
is one of the 21 elementary schools in Indian Prairie District 204. We have students in
kindergarten through 5th grade at Builta. We are located in Bolingbrook, in the far southeast
corner of the district. Our mascot is the Badger and our school colors are blue and white.
Our goal is to build "respect-filled" Builta Badgers who can
be responsible citizens and life long learners. The Builta staff takes a proactive systems
approach toward developing and maintaining safe learning environments with maximized instructional
time. Responsibility education instruction is provided in the following areas:
-
Rights and responsibilities: Why is
respect worth learning? Providing students with rational for learning increases instructional effectiveness.
-
Keys to Respect: Respect Yourself,
Respect Others, Respect Property. The Badger Keys to Respect form the foundation of our school environment.
-
Character traits: Social behavior is
taught through direct instruction throughout the curriculum as related/applied skills.
-
Problem solving process and skills:
Skills are applied in academics, daily living and conflict resolution.
-
Expression, understanding and regulation of
emotions to promote emotional and intellectual growth.
Power Paw certificates are given to students to recognize
and encourage the positive behaviors we want to see from students. We have monthly Power Paw
Assemblies where students are recognized for the respect they have shown themselves and
others. Each month Builta staff and students focus on an important character trait such as
trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. The focus for the month is
highlighted during daily announcements, in classroom activities and in hallway
displays.
Reading is important at Builta! One day each week we have
all-school BBT: BADGER BOOKTIME. The entire school (students and staff) reads for
twenty uninterrupted minutes at the same time! Students also have self-selected reading time daily in
their individual classrooms.
Builta has an enrollment of 530 for the 2009-2010 school
year, with capacity for 850 students.
