Art Awareness

Art Awareness at Builta is a very fun experience and does not require any prior knowledge or skill in art to facilitate. Our program runs from January to May and consists of one approximately 45-60 minute visit to the classroom per month to present an artist/artwork and lead a simple art project.

Volunteers work in teams or as individuals, depending on how many volunteers there are in each classroom and the preference of those volunteers.  Each class is given a specific artist for each month and there are many resources that can be used to do a presentation for the class. We have PowerPoint presentations available online for all our artists and both a physical and online resource file for each one. I am also available to brainstorm ideas or answer questions when needed.  You may volunteer for your child's room or if working with your own child is problematic, you can volunteer for a different class.

For a little more information about our program, please check visit this link:

If you are interested in being an art awareness volunteer, please contact Susan DeeWaard (, the 2016-2017 Art Awareness Coordinator.  Please indicate the classroom in which you would like to volunteer in your email.

Box Tops for Education is a national school earnings program that has generated millions of dollars for schools across the country.  Each Box Top earns the school 10 cents.  The proceeds from this program are used in a way that every child in the school will be able to benefit.  Please get involved!  You can ask neighbors, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends to also help.  This is free money for our kids!!!

How do you do this?  Simply look for and clip the Box Top from your boxes or bags.  The PTA will schedule several collections throughout the year.   Look for announcements indicating a collection is taking place and send with your child the Box Tops to turn into his/her classroom.   Some stores will print out Box Tops with your receipts.  Box Tops and Labels for Education are on tons of food items and also some household products that you already buy!

Builta has been able to collect an average of $1,500 to $2,000, per year, over the last five years.  Last year, we collected over 15,000 Box Tops worth $1,514.30.  With this money we have been able to purchase a new book spinner, seating, and camera for our library, outdoor recess toys, shelving for the MPR and educational materials for the entire school.  Our goal for this year is to collect $2,000 worth of Box Tops!  With everyone’s help, we can do it!

Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you at school!

Mari Becerra

Helping Hands

Health & Safety: Helping Hand

The Helping Hand Program was established in 1967 to provide children with adult assistance during an emergency. As part of the district's safety program, children learn that a home displaying a red Helping Hand poster in a front window is a safe place to go when they are frightened, sick, injured, or lost. Helping Hand households are instructed to contact the police immediately whenever a child needs assistance.

Local unit PTAs recruit volunteers to support the Helping Hand program by distributing applications to parents at all District 204 elementary schools, regardless of municipality. Each completed application is screened by the Naperville Police Department. Upon approval, PTAs distribute a Helping Hand poster to the household.

By completing the enclosed application, you may become a Helping Hand Household, help children in your neighborhood, and deter crime in your community:

Return your completed application to your elementary school office, or:
