ART FOCUS - 1st Quarter
KINDERGARTEN:
• Classroom Rules & Expectations

• Introduction and use of SHAPE

• Introduction and use of Perspective and Horizon Line
• Illustration/Stories (including “The Dot”) connecting to Art

1St GRADE:

• Reviewed and used different types of LINE
• Introduction to Thick & Thin Lines and Directional Lines
(Horizontal, Vertical, Diagonal)

Quarter 1 – Music Focus
Kindergarten:
• Exploring their voices: high and low sounds, singing and whispering voices
• Steady beat
• We sang songs about different animals and discovered how all of our voices and animal voices are different

First Grade
• Steady beat, reading and writing rhythms of quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rests
• Experienced and performed p (piano) quietly and f (forte) loudly
• Composer Papa Haydn

Second Grade
• Explored Native American Music
• Found patterns (form) in music
• Steady beat, composed and performed a hand jive, reading and performing quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rests

Third Grade
• Wrote a Class Rap
• Reading and performing half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rests
• Exploring harmony by singing rounds (canons), partner songs and playing ostinatos on the xylophones

Fourth Grade
• Performing and understanding whole notes, dotted half notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes, whole rests, half rests and quarter notes
• Time Signature and Meter Signs
• Completing measures in 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 time, conducting the different Meter Signs
• Letter names of notes on the treble clef staff

Fifth Grade
• Star Spangled Banner Unit
• Started Prelude Instruction on Brass, String, Percussion and Woodwind Instruments


1st Quarter PE Focus
K-2
• Personal space, boundaries, routines
• Basic Fitness concepts (flexibility, upper body strength, core strength, cardiovascular endurance)
• Tagging, fleeing, dodging, darting

3-5
