Mock Award Committees

Reported by jill_defarno@ipsd.org on 1/24/20

Students in fifth grade participated in Andersons Bookshop's Mock Newbery Award program this year. The Newbery Award is awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. Fifth graders read books from a list of twenty titles and then voted on the one they thought was the best. New Kid by Jerry Craft was picked as Builta's Mock Newbery winner. It was also the overall winner for the Andersons' program.

Builta third graders participated in a Mock Caldecott activity. The Caldecott Award is given to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. They read twenty picture books and then rated each book. Bear Came Along was chosen as the Builta Mock Caldecott winner. The Newbery and Caldecott winners will be announced on January 17th and both grades will watch to see if they picked the winners.
